2000 and Whatever – Slovenia

We may not get to see our 2020 favourites take to the stage, but that doesn’t mean we can’t reminisce on our Eurovision favourites. This series is aimed to discover the team’s favourite entries from the 21st century, from 2001 to 2019.

In collaboration with ESCDaily, we will be reviewing some of their 21st Century favourites, while over on their site, you will find their reviews of our favourites!

Below our reviews, you will find a poll where you can vote for your favourite Eurovision entry from the 21st Century.

Anita Reviews Dennis’ 21st Century Favourite

Maja Keuc – No One | 13th place, 96 points (Final)

I must say, Dennis has good taste because this song is so, so good. I can easily see why this would be someone’s 21st century favourite from Slovenia, and to be honest, I’m still kind of shocked it only reached 13th place. The vocals are outstanding from the first to final second, and the song builds in such a strong way. By the 2 minute mark, the song is reaching its peak, and it’s just so magical. The staging was strong, as was Maja’s stage presence. The jury placed this 4th, and it was the televote that severely underrated this song – and to this day, I do not understand why. This was Top 5 material.

Joshua Reviews Brandon’s 21st Century Favourite

Nuša Derenda – Energy | 7th place, 70 points (Final)

Mimicking Brandon’s below review of my favourite Slovenian entry, I also find the singer’s voice jarring. There is nothing inherently wrong with the vocals, they are just simply not my cup of tea. The song itself feels a little ‘by the book’, and does not exactly encourage me to have another listen. Not Slovenia’s best entry in my opinion, but I completely understand how some fans would be attracted to the fun, pop qualities of this song.
